Membership
The Doula Association of Edmonton was created by doulas for doulas. We strive to be a supportive network of doulas for newly trained or senior doulas. The association needs doulas to exist. Members who volunteer their time, energy, experience, and passion for birth lead it. Together we learn from each other, we support each other, and we work towards advancing and promoting labour and postpartum support as an option for childbearing families in the Edmonton area. We wish to see our doula community grow over the years and we hope that you can call DAE home.
What isn’t DAE?
DAE is not a certifying organization and is not associated with any particular certifying organization. DAE does not promote any particular path to becoming a doula over another.
What are the Benefits of Joining DAE?
DAE is for doulas from all different backgrounds that are looking to join together for community, support and education.
- Community - connect with other doulas in your local area
- Support - share your experiences with others
- Continuing Education - learn more from a wide range of speakers from the birthing community about topics relevant to your needs and interests
- Networking - meet potential mentors, backups, babysitters, job leads and friends
Membership meetings: They are held every other month starting in January from 7 to 9pm (on the last Wednesday of that month). Each meeting consists of introductions, reports from the executive, business, discussion topics, and time for sharing experiences and socializing. Minutes are available to all members in the member-only section.
Continuing Education Lectures: They are held every other month starting in February from 7 to 9pm (on the last Wednesday of that month). Instructors will address specific topics relating to childbearing and the postpartum period. Lectures are reserved to members.
Referral Lists: Doulas who wish to provide labour and postpartum support may complete the application for inclusion on one or both of the referral lists. There are two referral lists: one is for volunteer services and the other is for paid services. These lists are an opportunity to have potential clients referred to you on an ongoing basis.
Mentoring program: New doulas will be given the opportunity to take part in a mentoring program where they will shadow an experienced doula and learn from her. We encourage you to clearly discuss your expectations and needs with your mentor.
Yahoo group list: All members are invited to the list. This list allows members to connect with each other, read the archives, be informed of events and education opportunities, debrief a birth or ask questions to the membership about pregnancy, childbearing, postpartum, and parenting.
